What is accent variation and why does it matter?

Abstract

This talk was delivered at the Embracing Linguistic Diversity event, hosted by the Centre of Excellence in Language Teaching (CELT) and Language At Leeds. The event aimed to foster a better understanding of linguistic diversity, raise awareness of implicit biases rooted in linguistic differences, report on students’ experience of linguistic bias, discuss the implications for the language classroom and equality and diversity policy and practice and showcase examples of good practice in integrating linguistic diversity in language teaching.
